National Space Science Symposium-2022 (NSSS-2022): Space Science Outreach Component is Inaugurated

The outreach part of the National Space Science Symposium-2022 is underway during December 5-11, 2022, in Kolkata. It comprises several events including space science exhibition, rural outreach programme, public lectures etc. The exhibition is organized by the Centre of Excellence in Space Sciences India (CESSI) and is supported by ISRO, IISER Kolkata, S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences and the National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture. More than 90 scientists and PhD students from 20 different organisations have been involved as resource persons in various outreach activities, public lectures and panel discussions.
Shri A S Kiran Kumar, former Chairman ISRO / Secretary DOS, Member of Space Commission, who is also the Chairman of the National Organising Committee of NSSS-2022, inaugurated the National Space Science Exhibition (NSSE) on December 7, 2022 in Science City, Kolkata. During the inaugural lecture, Shri Kiran Kumar narrated the inspiring journey of ISRO, put in the context of evolution of the national, social, and scientific requirements, and explained how the space science exhibition is a step to provide exposure to the space scientists of tomorrow
The science outreach component is added this time to the NSSS, a biennial meeting of the space scientists of the country. It follows the 21st NSSS, i.e. the NSSS-2022 held from January 31 to February 4, 2022. While online public lectures are organised till the symposium, the National Space Science Exhibition would be open till December 11, 2022.
A lecture on Mohakashey Bharatbarsho (meaning ‘India in Space’) was delivered on December 5, 2022, at St. Xavier's College, Raghabpur campus by Dr. Tirtha Pratim Das. It was followed by the solar observation demonstration by IISER, Kolkata and Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), Nainital. The outreach programme also witnessed quiz competition, academia-industry panel discussion, women in space science panel, and informal scientific discussions (science adda).
