NRSC User Interaction Meet – 2018

National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad conducted its annual User Interaction Meet (UIM-2018) during Jan 17-19, 2018 with a theme "Space4All : For Inclusive and Sustainable Growth". The objective of the meet was to show case the new products and services, as well as future missions useful for National development and Governance to the Geo-spatial industry, academia and user community. UIM-2018 was aiming to bring together the Geo-spatial Industry and user community to share their success stories and experiences. UIM-2018 provided a platform to understand the current needs of the Geo-Spatial Industry as well as User community so that suitable data products and Geo-Spatial Solutions can be developed by NRSC in near future with newer Missions.

The meet was conducted at Hyderabad Conventional Centre (HICC) in association with Geospatial World Forum (GWF) 2018. The UIM-2018 was flagged off on January 17, 2018, along with the GWF. The inaugural ceremony was presided by Dr. Harsha Vardhan, Hon’ble Minister of Science and Technology, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Earth Sciences. In his keynote address, Hon’ble Minister emphasised on - how best Geospatial data and technology can be used for Socio Economic Security, Sustainable Development, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Governance in 4th Industrial revolution.

The august gathering was addressed by many dignitaries like Dr. Jitendra Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Space, Government of India, Dr A S Kiran Kumar, Former Chairman ISRO, Director, NRSC, Surveyor General, Survey of India, Director, Statistics Division, United Nations, Secretariat Director, Group on Earth Observations and representatives from leading Geo-spatial industries. The guest of honour emphasised on interaction of private and public member of geo-spatial industry, also congratulated ISRO for the last successful mission and encouraged for future missions. He also highlighted the Hon’ble PM Modi’s New India vision and the  role of Space Technology to transform India.

There were eight technical sessions, wherein one session was exclusively in Hindi. Technical Sessions included "ISRO - An Overview", "Emerging Products and Services", "Space for all through Bhuvan", "Utilisation of Space Technology in States", "Space Applications in Land / Water/Vegetation", "Session in Hindi", "Space Applications in Ocean, Atmosphere and Climate Sciences" and "Advanced Remote Sensing Data Collection and Processing". The Technical Sessions on the first day of UIM - 2018 were aimed to introduce the present missions of ISRO for earth observation, the applications, products and services offered by NRSC and utilisation of geo-spatial services by different agencies and state governments. The second day sessions focused on the National projects and users presented their studies / applications using remote sensing data. The Hindi session had five technical presentations focusing the web GIS and applications.

An exhibition was also arranged to show case the latest acquisitions, new products and updates on Bhuvan, which was visited by around 2000 delegates. The exhibition showcased the images from the latest Cartosat-2 Series Satellite along with fly-through. The exhibition also caught the attention of almost 10 countries representations who were interested in seeing the applications and national projects that were implemented through Bhuvan.

A total of 2500 participants were registered for GWF out of which 300 participants were NRSC users.   Apart from this, around 200 students also participated in the meet, who were specially invited so as to create awareness about the latest happenings among them. Overwhelming response from the users as well as students made the event a success. Around 30 new users had come forth with new applications and there was a lot of demand for the high-resolution data.

A compendium on “NRSC Activities in Earth Observation Data Acquisition, Processing and Applications for Societal development” was released during the ceremony.  Intensive Study Site: 2017 Products was also released during the Meet.
