In order to partly augment the capacity of the INSAT system consequent to the loss of INSAT-2D, an in-orbit satellite, ARABSAT-1C was acquired from ARABSAT which is a regional inter-governmental satellite consortium of Arab States. The satellite designated as INSAT-2DT; and located at 55degree east.
INSAT-2DT had 25 Normal C-band transponders and one S-band BSS transponder. The transponders were used by Doordarshan and Department of Telecommunications.
