INSAT-3DR is a follow-on meteorological satellite mission to INSAT-3D, planned to be positioned at 74 deg East longitude in the geostationary orbit. It carries two meteorological payloads, namely, a 6 channel Imager and 19 channel Sounder. In addition to this, it also carries a Data Relay Transponder (DRT) and Satellite Aided Search and Rescue (SAS&R) payload to provide continuity to INSAT SAS&R services. The satellite is designed for enhanced meteorological observations, monitoring of land and ocean surfaces, generating vertical profile of the atmosphere in terms of temperature and humidity for weather forecasting and disaster warning.

The satellite is scheduled to be launched by GSLV-F05 from SDSC SHAR , Sriharikota during First Half of September, 2016.
