Space Economy Leaders Meeting

Under India's G20 Presidency, the 4th edition of the Space Economy Leaders Meeting (SELM) was successfully organized by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Center (IN-SPACe) and New Space India Ltd (NSIL). This important event took place in Bengaluru during July 6-7, 2023, and witnessed the presence of esteemed heads and senior representatives from space agencies of 18 G20 countries, 8 invited countries, and 1 international organization. Moreover, 34 space industries from abroad and 53 Indian space industries actively participated, contributing to the event's grandeur.

The SELM commenced with a grand inaugural session held on July 6 at 09:30 am IST. Dignitaries such as Mr. Somanath S., Secretary of the Department of Space and Chairman of ISRO; Dr. Pawan Kumar Goenka, Chairman of IN-SPACe; Mr. Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa; Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs & Education; and Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State, PMO; MoES; S&T; Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievance & Pensions; Dep. of Space; Dept. of Atomic Energy addressed the esteemed delegates. Following the inaugural session, the Space Agency session was organised, during which the heads of delegations presented their official statements aligned with the theme of the SELM. The session concluded with Chairman of ISRO presenting the Chairs Summary of the 4th SELM, providing a comprehensive overview of the discussions. Chair's Summary 

Later in the afternoon, the attendees were privileged to hear keynote speeches from distinguished personalities. Dr. VK Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog; Mr. Jayant Patil, Chairman of the Indian Space Association - ISpA; and Mr. Clayton Mowry, President of the International Astronautical Federation - IAF (virtually) delivered captivating speeches. Additionally, Mr. Mario Maniewicz, Head of ITU's Radio Communication Bureau, and Ms. Claire Jolly, Head of the OECD Space Forum (virtually), shared their insights through engaging invited talks. To conclude the day's events, a delightful cultural program and a gala dinner were organized, showcasing the rich heritage and hospitality of India.

On the second day, July 7th, the focus was on the space industry session. Representatives from selected space industries delivered their statements, shedding light on the theme of the SELM and sharing their expertise. In the afternoon, an Industry Connect session provided a valuable platform for participating industries to present their profiles and highlight their areas of specialization. Throughout both days, the SELM facilitated bilateral meetings among space agencies, industries, and the dynamic interaction between agencies and industries. These meetings fostered collaboration, exchange of ideas, and the exploration of potential partnerships, further propelling the growth and development of the global space economy.
