ISRO provides near real time information on damages due to earthquakes using high resolution data and stereo data from Cartosat satellite series. This input helps in understanding the extent of damage in the remote areas and helps in supporting relief operations.
Satellite data is helpful in identifying the oil spill extent. The possible movement of oil spill is also modelled. Recent oil spill at Chennai during January, 2017 is one of the major events.
Regular monitoring is carried out in the upper reaches of Himalayas for river blockades due to landslides. This information is provided to Govt. for taking quick remedial measures.
