Flood Hazard - Assam State
Flood hazard map was prepared, providing information on the severity of flooding, village-wise. Based on the analysis of about 215 satellite datasets, acquired during floods of 1998-2015, the flood hazard layer for Assam state was prepared. The hazard layer represents the number of times an area is flooded during last 18 years. The flood hazard layer has been classified into 5 categories based on the frequency of inundation. “Very High” indicates the areas which are inundated Sixteen to Eighteen times during the 18-year period, “High” indicates thirteen to fifteen times, “Moderate” indicates nine to twelve times, “Low” indicates five to eight times and “Very Low” category indicates the areas which are inundated one to four times during the 18-year period. This helps in better understanding of flood severity.
