National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), MHA in association with National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC)/ ISRO successfully conducted a one-day workshop on “Harnessing Space-Based Earth Observation and GIS Technologies for Disaster Risk Management” on 23rd May 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The workshop is an outcome of the continuous interaction between ISRO and MHA, to bring all stakeholders from Central and State government organisations, academia, and industry together, to deliberate on the application of Space technology and Geospatial tools in disaster risk management.

Shri Rajendra Singh, Member & HoD, NDMA delivered a Special Address and Shri Safi Ahsan Rizvi, Advisor (Mitigation), NDMA provided an “Overview on the role of space technology in disaster risk management”, in the inaugural session. Dr. Prakash Chauhan, Director, NRSC, delivered the Chief Guest's Address, emphasizing the role of Earth observation in strengthening disaster risk management and ISRO's efforts towards achieving Honourable Prime Minister's 10- Point Agenda for building disaster resilient country.

About 120 delegates from various organisations participated in the workshop. The technical deliberations were structured across five sessions, each exploring critical aspects of leveraging geospatial technologies for disaster preparedness and response.

Valedictory address was delivered by Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.), Member, NDMA. A forward-looking roadmap was presented by Dr. Krishna S. Vatsa, Member, NDMA, marking the event as a vital step toward strengthening India's disaster resilience through space technology.
