On 23 August 2023, India’s long journey to the Moon reached a defining moment. Vikram descended through the silence of space and touched down gently near the lunar south polar region, making India the fourth nation to achieve a soft landing on the Moon—and the first to reach this unexplored frontier. Soon afterwards, the Pragyan rover rolled onto the lunar surface, carrying India’s scientific curiosity into a new realm. The landing site was named Shiv Shakti Point, and 23 August was declared National Space Day. On 23 August 2026, India will celebrate its third National Space Day—honouring an achievement that transformed a distant dream into a proud national milestone.
