Intellectual property (IP) is a category of property that includes intangible creations of the human intellect, and primarily encompasses copyrights, patents and trademarks. Intellectual property rights (IPR) are like any other property right which allows the creators, or owners, of patents, trademarks or copyrighted works to benefit from their own work or investment in a creation. The main purpose of intellectual property law is to encourage the creation of a wide variety of intellectual goods.
