ISRO Organizes Smart India Hackathon-2022 Grand Finale Home

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)/ Department of Space (DOS) has organized Smart India Hackathon-2022 (SIH-2022) Grand Finale Software Edition at Shri Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad during August 25-26, 2022. The Grand Finale was a 36 hours non-stop digital programming competition held simultaneously at 75 different Nodal Centers across India as the nation is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. This year’s SIH-2022 brings the next generation evolution by inclusion of new methodology to inculcate the culture of startup and innovative ecosystem across different age groups. This year theme was “No problem is too big… No idea is too small…”
Space Missions of ISRO/DOS have proved their usefulness for mankind. There are ample challenges and unlimited opportunity to students for improving quality of life of Indian citizens by their expertise and providing innovative solutions using satellite data and space technologies. Hence, ISRO/DOS has proposed 22 problem statements under different categories viz., Disaster Management, Satellite Navigation, Satellite Communication for SIH-2022 to get novel ideas from India’s Young and Ignited minds to resolve specific issues in their own innovative ways.
22 Problem statements were posted by ISRO/DOS for ‘Smart India Hackathon 2022- Software edition’ ,which is a 36-hr software product development competition and scheduled on August 25-26, 2022 covering the categories like Block chain management, Disaster management, Satellite Communications, Remote Sensing and Satellite Navigation Applications etc., 36 student teams had been short-listed to provide solutions. Out of which 32 team confirmed their participation and participated in the Grand Finale. During the ‘Grand Finale’ at Ahmedabad, 32 teams consisting of 224 youngsters (5-6 students & 1-2 young mentors per team) participated and worked non-stop for 36 hours to build innovative digital solutions for sample problems posed by ISRO/DOS.
Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, addressed all the participants across India on the evening of August 25, 2022 and also interacted via Live Video Conference with some of the participants from different nodal centres. Shri Nilesh Desai, Director, SAC, Shri Sudheer Kumar, Director, CBPO, ISRO Head Quarters, Vice Chancellor of Gujarat Technological University (GTU) Dr. Navin Sheth, Shri G.T.Pandya, Director, Technical Education were the chief guests at the inaugural function of SIH-2022 held on August 25, 2022 morning. The Valedictory function was held on August 26, 2022 during which the prizes and winner trophies were distributed by Shri Nilesh M Desai, Director, SAC along with Registrar, GTU. This year, 7 (seven) prizes in total were decided by technical committee. Three prizes for the top three teams, three Cheer Up (consolations) prizes to the next best three teams and one special prize to encourage and appreciate the performance of female participants as a Nari-Shakti prize.
Representatives of AICTE also visited the nodal centre during the competition and interacted with the participants.

ISRO/DOS had been the ‘Premier Partner’ in this initiative of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the aegis of Ministry of Education. This year, event was co-sponsored by INSPACe, a new centre under Dept. of Space to promote and authorize space activities in India.
Overall growth analysis of SIH over the years:
The Event was judged by Jury consisting of Scientists/Engineers from ISRO/DOS and Domain experts from various ISRO/DOS centres. Shri Shashikant Sharma was Chief judge.
The event was organized by a Local Organizing Committee under the Chairmanship of Shri Darshan K Patel.
