Assessment of Irrigation Potential under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Program (AIBP)       Back to other RS applications

High resolution satellite data is used for assessing the irrigation potential created, through mapping of irrigation infrastructure consisting of canal network, cross drainage and other related irrigation structures At the instance of Planning Commission, CWC (MoWR) decided to take up all AIBP projects (~150 Nos) using CARTOSAT -1 data in a phased manner during XI Five Year plan period. Accordingly, AIBP-Phase I project was taken up by NRSC covering 53 irrigation projects with an Irrigation Potential target of 54.5 Lakh ha. across 18 States in India during 2007-08. To begin with, 53 projects have been completed covering about 5.45 million ha spread across 18 States. The results are being utilized for effective monitoring of the program (AIBP) implementation by CWC / MoWR / Planning Commission. Under Phase-II, it is planned to take up another 50 projects with an irrigation potential of 0.85 million ha.
